About me

I want to tell you a bit about my story.
This will not just be about Software Development, but me as a Person.

This might not be what you expected, a page that is 100% focused on my Services and Achievements. No, if you want to see that please click on the services dropdown in the menu above. This story will be “About Me”, how I grew up and how I became who I am today. And yes, I will include my Failures in here, just like I will my Successes.

To the lovely hackers out there, I won’t be revealing any personal information here. You won’t be finding my mothers maiden name or my Birthdate here. So to the hackers I say “Shoo!”. Everyone else read on if you’re interested.

Throughout these timelines you will find that no matter where I am I always rise to the occasion and somehow always end up having something to do with Technology although I started as something else.

Childhood

Ah yes, the formative years. Time long past and mostly forgotten.
This is the very short story of my childhood.

2002

Foreign Language

My Parents weren’t born in Germany, although our family history dates back to my Ancestors, who all lived in Prussia.
But this isn’t about them, this is about me.
Although I was born and raised in Germany. I was unable to speak German for the first 4 years of my life.
My parents both worked, so I almost exclusively stayed with my grandmothers. Both of whom could only speak Russian back then.
And yes, also I was only able to speak Russian.
After I turned 4 years old I was allowed to go into kindergarden, where I started learning German.
To this day, I am still able to speak both languages.

2003

I love Legos!

As a Child I was always interested in Legos. They are such a fascinating toy. You can build literally anything with them. Before you ask, yes, I still have Legos to this day.

2007

My First Computer

My First Computer was a Windows XP. It was very old, but I was able to play my first Video Games with it.
I know… Very Default… How almost any young Software Developer started, and yes I’m no different.
I always loved RTS or 4X strategy games like Red Alert or Civilizations, this might be, where I sharpened my strategic thinking.

2010

IT Class

My first touch with Software Development was in school.
Here I had an IT Class where we learned Visual Basic.
I got so interested into this topic, that I stayed up many nights learning and playing around with it.

2011

First Calculator Developed

I developed my first calculator using Visual Basic. While it was a basic application, capable of performing simple arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, it marked my initial foray into building functional software.

2012

Bought First PC Components

After working as a Paperboy I had saved up enough money to buy myself all the parts I needed to build a very cheap PC.

2013

First Video Game Created

Using the Unity3D game engine, I embarked on developing my first game. Although the project remained incomplete, I managed to implement basic mechanics, such as NPCs pursuing the player and enabling the player to inflict damage. However, the NPCs lacked features like a damage system, animations, or other advanced functionalities.

Baerler PC Laden

Ah yes, the formative years. Time long past and mostly forgotten.
This is the very short story of my childhood.

2012

My First PC Built

After having bought all required parts, I needed to assemble it, which I did successfully, however, not knowing anything I made some mistakes.
I also hadn’t bought a copy of a Windows License yet, and at that time I didn’t even know what Linux was. So I decided to make my way down from my Grandmothers house over to a nearby PC Shop, the “Baerler PC Laden”.

2012 - 2014

Working as a PC Specialist

I worked here as a PC specialist. Repairing old PCs, Building New Ones, earning some pocket money. Each Saturday I was here working for almost 2 years.

Kletterwald Staufen

100%Ah yes, the formative years. Time long past and mostly forgotten.
This is the very short story of my childhood.

2016

Working as a Trainer

Now, if anyone is actually reading this, you might be thinking “What does this have to do with IT?”, but you need to know, this is a very important step for me in my life.

2016 - 2017

Becoming IT Support

I may have started out as a Trainer, but I quickly

April 2017

First Website Hosted

Using the LAMP stack I built my first website completely using php and no framework.
I had to learn HTML, CSS, MySQL, PHP, Linux CLI, Networking, Firewalls and so much more.
This website was built for a client.

My Own Company

As I advanced my web development knowledge I started out with Angular and learned javascript and typescript. I had rebuilt my first website completely for free, because I wanted it to look good and I was unhappy with my first attempt.
I later switched over to React and then to NextJS.

June 2019

Founded My Own Company

I was starting to get a couple of clients that wanted me to build a website for them, so I decided to build a company, so I can use some tax advantages.

My Greatest Failure. I was supposed to build a new Web Application for a Client I had, but this project was doomed from the start.

2022 - Now

TireTask GmbH

I was hired as a Freelancer to be a Frontend Web Developer.
But very quickly I switched over to a QA position.
I wrote E2E (End-to-End) tests to assure the quality of the mobile application.
The mobile application was built using react native and the tests were done using mocha at first, but we switched over to jest a bit later. Now we use Jest with Detox.

April 2023

Building a Custom Router

I had a Swiss Client who had a 100 Gb/s Internet connection.
I helped him set up PfSense on his own Router.
When I say helped, I really mean I only advised.
It was completely via the Internet.
But I like to believe that he would have taken a lot longer without me.

April 2024

Timelit UG

A german client wanted me to build a frontend web application using next.js. He had already worked with many developers from pakistan and india and was incredibly unhappy with their work. So he had basically already given up trying to find someone, but then he found me and together we built the Timelit Application.
It was finally released in January 2025

Emanuel Rahn Einzelunternehmen

An “Einzelunternehmen” in German means “Sole Business”.
Running my own business has taught me a lot of different things, but mostly it teaches me about Strategy and Taxes.
It started out as just a simple Sole Business, but I have split it into 2 parts.

First Part is Rahn-Tech. This “Brand” is only about Software Engineering, like developing Web Applications or Mobile Applications and also DevOps and Hosting.

Second Part is Rahn-Media. This “Brand” is all about Marketing.
Here I will design Custom Websites for you or your Company, I will help you create Content or even create it for you. Most of my Content is however focused on Video.

Rahn-Technologies Kft.

This business is only used to isolate my person from legal trouble and to save some money on taxes.

Here I launch Applications to the public.
